This is the essence that guides the creation of Sustainable Origin
that seeks to positively impact companies for a more sustainable future.
We want solid companies with strategies that prioritize efficient management, which results in economic results, while being actively responsible with society and its employees, and preserving the environment.
More than a certification seal, Sustainable Origin is a program that guides the evolution of companies and, consequently, of the entire footwear production chain.
HISTORY
The initial steps of the program were formatted with the support of researchers and experts from the University of São Paulo (USP) who, through the work of the Sustainability Laboratory of the Polytechnic School of USP (LASSU) developed a project proposal with indicators to direct the assessment of sustainability in the footwear sector.
Assintecal, as a representative entity of the footwear industry components' companies, had a primary role in stimulating the practical construction of a program, which in 2013 became a pilot project to apply in market practice and test its operation and feasibility with footwear and component companies.
MOTIVATORS
During prospective missions in mid-2009, Assintecal's Board of directors and entrepreneurs from the components' sector visited companies in Europe that had in their management guidelines sustainability as a strategic pillar, not linked to product, but as their internal processes and policies were instructed to bring greater economy, social and environmental responsibility.
And based on these references and the myopia of perception about sustainability as a theme related only to ecological and environmental issues linked to the product, that an intention was motivated to demystify the concept of sustainability to Brazilians.
Another motivator, in addition to education on the subject, was the formatting of a high-level recognition so that companies could be highlighted and promoted for implementing a system of excellence in their companies.
Based on this, in addition to a seal based on the most important international parameters of sustainability, we have structured a program that educates and guides the evolution of companies to build a sustainable footwear chain.
GOVERNANCE
Created in 1983, Abicalçados represents the national footwear industry.
In addition to the institutional representation, which makes the entity the official spokesperson of the Brazilian footwear sector, bringing demands of interest to the Public Power, Abicalçados promotes development actions, commercial and image promotion for both the domestic and international market, in the latter through the Brazilian Footwear program.

For more than 35 years representing the components' sector with the mission of boosting the Brazilian market and taking products beyond borders, Assintecal has more than 300 associated companies in the most diverse Brazilian poles.

These are actions in the present that affect the sustainability of the business over time.

CERTIFICATION TYPES
FOR ALL TYPES OF CERTIFICATION
The Sustainable Origin is a certification of the footwear chain aimed at shoe companies and footwear supplies.
In addition, it makes it possible to choose the organizational limit of certification, which can be both for an Enterprise Group, a brand or a production unit.
COMPANIES
Certification of all processes of the organization. The brands belonging to the certified company also receive the certification.
BRAND
Certification of processes related to a particular brand. Multiple units can have one or more processes checked.
UNITS
Certification of processes that occur within the limits of a certain manufacturing unit (CNPJ).
INDICATORS
EVALUATED BY INDICATORS BASED ON INTERNATIONAL PARAMETERS
The companies participating in Sustainable Origin assume the responsibility of developing and achieving the goals of the indicators of the sustainability management, economic, environmental, social and cultural dimensions.
Each of the indicators evaluates the performance of companies to ensure the certification levels of the program. The map of indicators demonstrates all the necessary areas that are constantly evolving and that constitute a complete guide to sustainability in the footwear chain.
