Brazilian footwear will have a special space in the Brazilian Pavilion of Expo Dubai 2020, in the United Arab Emirates, between November 2 and 6. Located in the Sustainability District, the Brazilian pavillion will be one of more than 190 countries that will be represented at the exhibition and will host exhibitions, activations of Brazilian brands and experience hubs to strengthen the country´s image.

The participation of Brazilian footwear is organized by Brazilian Footwear, a support program for footwear exports maintained by the Brazilian Association of Footwear industries (Abicalçados) in partnership with the Brazilian Agency for Export and Investment Promotion (Apex-Brazil).
The commercial promotion analyst of Abicalçados, Paola Pontin, highlights that Brazilian Footwear will present its repositioning as an important player in the global footwear sector and will also present its profile of a sustainable footwear chain, sharing success stories of Brazilian footwear companies that have been incorporating sustainability as a strategy in their business.
In addition, the novelty of the sector will be reinforced with the only sustainability certification of the footwear chain, the Sustainable Origin. “We will have a prominent space with an exhibition on sustainability in the footwear sector for visitors from all over the world. And we will also hold a special reception for buyers invited by the footwear companies themselves who will be part of the participating group. The potential for dissemination of the image of Brazilian footwear is very relevant”, adds Paola.
Exhibitions of the companies Beira Rio, Grendene, Usaflex, Bibi, Ramarim, Pegada, Klin, Piccadilly, Kidy and Urban Flowers are confirmed.
Sustainable Origin
With a pilot project launched in 2013 and a reformulated version starting in 2019, Sustainable Origin is the only certification in the world aimed at companies producing footwear and footwear industry inputs. Based on the best international practices of sustainability, it follows indicators of five dimensions: economic, environmental, social, cultural and sustainability management and has been gaining visibility not only in Brazil, but in the international market.
Abicalçados project manager, Cristian Schlindwein, says that many international buyers have already got in touch with Abicalçados in search of companies certified in sustainability. "More and more consumers, especially from Europe and the United States, are paying attention not only to the origin, but to the profile of the brands and companies they buy from, and this has been directly impacting the selection criteria of international
buyers,” he says.
Sustainable Origin already includes popular brands like Vulcabras, Piccadilly, Bibi, Beira Rio, Boxprint and Caimi & Liaison as certified members, and others in the process of implementation, like Schutz, Usaflex, Ramarim, via Marte, Redeplast, Ala Calçados and Bebecê. With audits accredited by SGS, Bureau Veritas, ABNT and Senai, the certification has four evolution levels: Bronze (for companies that meet the minimum of 20% to 30% of the proposed indicators), Silver (40%), Gold (60%) and Diamond (80%).
